A bit About me

I’ve been making things in different mediums since I can remember, but my first love is fabric. More than any other material, textiles communicate. They talk of time, history, culture, identity, revolution, ancestors. They speak of home, honoring, protection, creativity, spirituality and love.

Mending, combining and re-configuring found, worn, vintage textiles, scraps and rags, I create abstract compositions. Essentially I paint with fabrics. My process is slow, deliberate and instinctual. I love the quiet unfolding of a piece as it makes itself known. I love the hands-on making of each object and the alchemy of transforming common, utilitarian materials into new possibilities, new ways of seeing.

Sometimes I’m not sure if I’m creating art, practicing a craft of working in the decorative arts and that’s OK.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide….

Sustainability and Our Planet

In my small way I am trying to counter the contemporary view that textiles are disposable.

Of the 62 million tonnes of textiles produced each year globally, 57% end up in landfill.

I am committed to doing everything I can to keep my foot prints on this beautiful planet light.

Each piece of fabric I reuse, manipulate, embellish or dye is a piece saved from landfill. The fabrics I collect are patterned by the patina of time. What makes them inherently beautiful, their inconsistencies and signs of wear and tear, are celebrated in my compositions.

Everything I do is made with great care and attention to detail. Made to endure and to be passed down for generations to come.

Where possible I try to repurpose packaging materials and avoid using plastics. I ship using UPS Carbon Neutral which supports projects that offset the emissions of the shipment's transport.

MORE INFO

I use she/ her pronouns.

I received my Masters Degree in textiles from the Royal College of Art, London.

Originally from the UK I now split my time between Brooklyn, New York and Saugerties in the Hudson Valley.

Brooklyn, New York lies on unceded Lenape land. Saugerties, NY is on the land of the  Mohican, Munsee and Schaghticoke people. If you’d like to learn more about the native land you live on this is a wonderful resource.

TEXTILES ARE LOVE is the part of my practice where I work directly with clients. Cherished textiles can be transformed into treasured keepsakes, memory vessels that mark the passing of time and celebrate our connections and heritage. You can learn more about this work here.
